Онзи ден баща ми дойде да ме закара до гумаджия, за да отвият болта на коляновия вал на Рошко. Болтът се затяга силно, аз не можех да го отвия, както ми трябваше, за да довърша ремонта, а гумаджиите имат пневматични гайковерти с ударни приставки. И затова можеха да ми свършат идеално работа. Щях да си платя, разбира се. Но не би.

Отиваме до един гумаджия наблизо, при когото и баща ми, и брат ми си правят гумите. И аз съм ходил веднъж там, когато през пролетта спуках гума в квартала. Та отиваме и добре, че първо отидохме да питаме, а не както аз бях решил “отиваме с колата, теглим я направо – какво има да отказва, какво има да питаме, то е само един болт”. Влизам аз, изчаквам майстора да добалансира колелата на някакъв голф и се приближавам. “Кажете.” Обяснявам му, че ми е нужна помощта му да отвием един болт на колянов вал, ще му докараме колата след малко, а той само да “откърти” болта, аз ще му покажа точно къде и как. “Само гуми! Гуми само!” Мигам на парцали, разпервам ръце и невярващо питам защо така, какъв е проблемът. Вдига скандал, започва да говори на голфаджийчето за мен, как трябвало да съм идел на монтьор, той не можело да пипа болтове, особено пък на “колянов вал” и как ако се повредяло нещо, съм щял него да обвинявам. Пак казвам, че всичко ще подготвя и ми трябва само той с инструмента си да отвие един болт, най-обикновен болт… Не.

Ядосах се, обиколихме другите гумаджийници наоколо и накрая се върнахме, а аз продължих следобяда да ремонтирам колата в жегата. Вчера пък баща ми минава по друга една работа и аз тържестрено му заявявам, че точно в 3 без 15 съм отвил болта. Успях да сваля стартера с много спрей и тръба в звездогаечния глюч. После след десетина неуспешни опита, най-накрая успях да заклиня отвертка там в маховика. В последния момент реших да включа на пета скорост и макар да нямаше кой да ми помага и да натиска спирачките, с лашкане на болта, пак с тръба за удължител, най-накрая болтът подаде. Като го отвих видях, че е бил завит с епоксидно лепило – нямам идея защо и защо не са го затегнали просто с нужното усилие, по учебник. Отвратих се още повече от пишман-майсторите, дето само взимат парите на хората, за да им трошат колите…

И така снощи вечерта колата вече имаше два “пробни старта” от по десетина секунди. Но стана тъмно и довърших тази сутрин. В началото започваше да пуши много, ама много. Откъм изходящия колектор, ауспухните тръби от двигателя. Реших, че гори масло и всякакви други неща, които са попадали там по време на ремонта. Но как да е сигурен човек? Със свито сърце опитвах пак и пак, докато започваше да пуши много и гасях. Накрая направих и малко кръгче и като че ли вече почти нямаше пушек. А сега вече съвсем изчезна. Ясно – доизгаряли са някакви омаслявания по тръбите.

В началото двигателят тракаше като трактор. Като че ли това вече леко поутихна, би трябвало да са били празните повдигачи, които лека-полека са се напълнили с масло. Масло, което не е точно масло, между другото. От пресеченото масло преди ремонта е останало тук-там по малко и сега като е влязло и се е смесило с маслото, му придава един такъв жълтеникаво-кафеникав, но непрозрачен цвят. Скоро ще му добавя нещо за промиване и ще сменя с ново.

Другото, което ме тревожи, е дали съм зацепил съвсем правилно ангренажния ремък. Другите ремъци са лесни, особено този на хидравликата се сменя с поглед. Но ангренажа уж го правих както си трябва, но когато махнах фиксиращата планка и завъртях на ръка няколко оборота, като че ли колелата на разпределителните валове вече не бяха с белези в съвсем права линия… Може да има леее-ко разминаване, но колата запали и работи. Чува се лек шум, който не мога още да преценя дали е от ангренажа или от нещо друго, като хидравлична помпа, компресор на климатик или алтернатор. Възможно е и ремъкът да е зацепен добре, защото двигателят си работи равномерно, но пък самият ремък да се опира леко някъде в кутията. Трябва да проверя това.

И третото, което май е най-тревожно е, че когато поработи, надува маркучите. Като че ли – не съм съвсем сигурен, май надува както и преди ремонта. Вариантите като че ли са два – 1) да изпуска от чисто новата гарнитура и да вкарва изгорели газове в охладителната течност и 2) капачката на разширителното казанче да е с повреден клапан и да “задържа” налягане над допустимото в системата.

Ще ми се да е второто – една капачка е няколко лева, а смяна на гарнитура е няколкостотин. Мисля, че е капачката и при първа възможност ще я сменя. И без това трябваше да съм го направил отдавна…

Бях решил като тръгне, да я занеса веднага на автомивка и да светне. Но първо ходихме на рожден ден на татко, кръгла годишнина, отидохме само половин час след като бях сглобил, пуснал и тествал малко колата. Мивката ще поизчака.

Искам и да ида някъде наоколо в някоя природа и да покарам и да поснимам. Непременно ще го направя, да. Добра идея си е.

I hardly believed my eyes too, but it finally happened — PayPal now supports sending money to Bulgarian accounts. A while ago in the spring this year lot of people jumped with joy that there was a registration from Bulgaria and with Bulgarian bank cards allowed. That was nice, but until now these profiles of ours were no good for anything except payment. If one had money in one’s credit card and a willingness to spend them on the Internet, one had a chance. But the other way transactions didn’t work — you just end up with a big sign “your account is send-only” or something like that when you try a money request.

So all the payment from websites that recognise only PayPal just didn’t work for us. Lately I wrote about my hard times with TextLinkAds, who pay just by PayPal and by cheque. Well, if I only have waited some more for that first test payment from TLA, I could now have transferred my money easily to my PayPal account.

I have recommended many times MoneyBookers, because their service have worked for me and I have received some real money through them. It is something I couldn’t even hope with PayPal until now. Who knows, If some day I receive money through them and it’s all ok, I would recommend them too. Or more likely it will the same whether we’re using MoneyBookers or PayPal, because with both these sites we will be able to do our job.

Just a week ago, last monday I wrote about TLA and the problems with cashing a cheque in Bulgaria. In the comments (in Bulgarian version) I mentioned that I don’t believe PayPal will unlock it’s Bulgarian accounts. And now, only a week later… Wow, my site, it’s influence… scary… :D

(Some conspiracy theory here involved, haha ;)

That means I’ll have to rework the block at the right panel for buying me a beer to work not just with ePay (a Bulgarian online money operator). But with my growing interest in Django and Pylons and fading one in Drupal who knows whether I’ll first update the block or I’ll go for rewriting my site with Pylons…

In the meantime you could by me a beer with the means available :P (Update: the donation form now works with PayPal)

Greetings to all who waited for these PayPal accounts and I hope we receive lots of money through them! :)

While we’re talking about web development… If one tries not to write PHP, what alternatives would you recommend? I’m addressing this to people who are developing with web-frameworks. I’m aware of Django, Pylons, Jinja and Mako, I know about Rails. But in general on the shared hosting plans one finds no support for mod_python or mod_ruby, but just for mod_php and CGI. Not that these are new things, not that they are hard to implement, it’s just because the sysadmins are some lazy bastards. Don’t get mad on me if you’re a sysadmin — I know this because I was a sysadmin myself. En masse people use PHP and CGI, i.e. that’s enough. Who are they to be spoiled with Python and Ruby…

But that’s not a serious attitude. The other obstacle is that many of the python or ruby frameworks need shell access and availability of some commands to get installed and managed. The convenience in writing PHP is that the code may be taken, compressed in an archive and put on another server where it will be almost certain it will just work. Yes, there is for instance CakePHP, but it’s… PHP and I want a little rest from it. :)

I kind of like Jinja and Mako and I try out some little things based on them at home and I have worked on smaller projects with Rails. But I can’t say that a Rails project is something that one could just “deliver” at any hosting. It’s the same with python-based systems, if it’s not worse. So is there a way for me to use some template system or a more complex framework with python or ruby and to have such “portability”? Which of these “environments” is most “nomad”? And which one you would recommend?

What are you writing on? I’m not asking about writing from scratch or for customising a general CMS — these things are clear. If you give me some arguments with your recommendations, you’ll just rock ;)

I’m telling stories all the time, mostly in the evening before I get asleep. And maybe after that, I don’t remember. A permanent blogger, And the most interesting, most precious things remain untold. And unwritten. I have no keyboard around me to write them down. Even if a reach out for one, it all changes a bit, somehow it adapts to go out and imprint itself on the screen. Dreams have to be killed a bit to be written down. In the museum of natural science there is a whole floor with nailed butterflies, beetles and all kinds of bugs. Just a pin through the body and it stays there nailed on for years. Under a glass, with a sidelong description and appointed cleaners to dust around. Writing always changes the world. One who doesn’t notice it is insensible, one who always looks with regret on that turning of thoughts to words is a driveller. So we’re looking for the golden mean, but is there one?

If I could just write my daydreams in raw format… Remember Dr. Aki Ross from “Final Fantasy”? She wrote down her dreams. I’m thinking of something much simpler, about “day”-dreams. And when I’m outside walking or travelling I’m thinking music. I cannot play this music later, because it always turns out to be something diferent and the very act of playing somehow pull me out to somewhere else. Pins again — and under the glass. And there is no way to write that too, it has to suffer with it’s transition played music. To get born in pains and become something else. Sure, these happen to be nice songs sometimes. And some of the texts are nice also. But it’s not the same…

I’ve just received my first money from selling stock photos in my profile at Fotolia. Fotolia is a microstock site for commercial stok photos.

It sounds a bit complicated, but it’s not — it’s about such kind of photos that can be used for instance in the making of newsletters and printed materials, in comercials in media and in websites. In fact it’s about everything, that meets some simple criteria — to have good technical quality and nice concepts in composition, to have clear accents in focus and well balanced defocus, to have no trademarks or copyrighted objects. And if there are human faces to be seen, the photo has to be accompanied with signed by every person in it model release document.

My photos are nothing special — I know about lot of other people profiles in this and in similar stock sites, that are lvels above mine. And I mean even people from Bulgaria like me.

Nevertheless for me this first payment is a reason to feel happy, because at last half of my photos there are made with my film camera before I got Pentax *istDL. And with homemade lightig, DIY macro-tents from home materials and instead of flashes — lamps and reading spotlights.

I’m aware this is not the professional way, it’s not even the recommended amateur way. But for me it was very important im my growing as a photographer to prepare each shot and to for instance see how exactly dark reflections affect the shooting of glass. Not that I’ve beome some kind of expert with this first payment — no, but it’s nice for my self-esteem and for growing up.

In the lower right corner of my site there is a list is several such places for photos microsales. These are the stock sites that are useable enough, enough developed and in the same time have a way to send payments to Bulgaria. And you san send photos there online. Out there there are countless stock agencies, but most of them have the photos mailed to them in CDs. I neither have enough photos for CDs, neither have faith in post offices.

I have some growing earings in several other sites, but Fotolia won the contest for the first earnings transfer. Money came fast in MoneyBookers and converted to my local curreny BGN, as I have ordered.

It just remains to decide when to transfer them to my bank acount and have them in cash. And to decide what to do with them — whether to use them for urgent bills or to wait to have some more and use them later for some photo gear…
